USA 2024 - Old Car City USA: Classic Restos - Series 57
Have you ever wondered where all the old cars go? Fletch has discovered an intriguing location known as Old Car City USA in White, Georgia. This remarkable site, tucked away amid over fifty acres of natural woodland, is the final resting place for 4,500 car wrecks. For generations, the Lewis family has called this land home. Old Car City USA started as a small general store in 1931, and the property gradually transformed into a junkyard, specialising in selling parts for the restoration and repair of American classic cars. Today, the focus has shifted; Old Car City has become a popular tourist destination for car enthusiasts and photography buffs who marvel at the sight of these classic vehicles.
When the Lewis family first settled in the area, there were open fields that would soon be utilised as a junkyard, filled with discarded cars left unceremoniously across the landscape. Over the past 70 years, nature has reclaimed the territory, enveloping the abandoned vehicles in a thick forest canopy that secures their presence for eternity. The once-lustrous finishes of these cars have succumbed to a rusty patina, blending seamlessly with the surrounding foliage and providing striking subjects for photographers. The landscape has been transformed into a maze, featuring seven miles of walking tracks and endless rows of classic American cars around every bend.
Dean Lewis, the site's custodian, is at the heart of Old Car City USA. Born and raised in the junkyard, he has devoted his life to preserving this unique place. His passion fuels his dedication to the site, where words fall short of capturing the scale and beauty of the American classic cars captured and now bound forever by nature. Every corner of Old Car City USA tells a story, inviting visitors to explore and appreciate the history that has intertwined with the land.
