USA 2024 - Browne Auto Salvage: Classic Restos - Series 57

By Shannons - Published on 22 November 2024

Just an hour's drive northwest of Dallas, Texas, lies Browne Auto Salvage, a remarkable treasure trove of classic cars spanning over 30 acres. With more than 4,000 vehicles on site, it's a paradise for car enthusiasts. Fletch is eager to explore what this expansive salvage yard has to offer.

Jeremy, who has dedicated his life to this business, warmly welcomes Fletch and visitors from around the globe to Browne Auto Salvage. "I can't imagine a car enthusiast not wanting to visit this place," Fletch remarks. Jeremy notes that their inventory consists of approximately 70% classic cars and 30% newer models, with a clear focus on vintage automobiles. He explains how the demand for parts has grown on an international scale, primarily driven by social media. "We ship containers worldwide—to Denmark, Australia, Northern Africa," he explains. This global interest reflects a rising appreciation for classic American cars, particularly in regions where such vehicles have limited availability.

Fletch describes how Australia has limited access to American cars in the past, leading to a reliance on locally manufactured models. Jeremy agrees, pointing out that models like the Falcon, once discontinued in the U.S., now have a devoted following down under. "People often want what they can't have," he muses.

Jeremy makes an important point regarding parts availability: while classic parts are still accessible, rarer model parts are becoming increasingly difficult to find. "For oddball cars, like AMCs, parts are thinning out," he explains. "Every day, we compete with scrappers who want to crush these cars for metal." He emphasises their mission to preserve these classic vehicles, rescuing them from destruction whenever possible.

As Fletch and Jeremy wander through the yard, Fletch asks about the appeal of four-door cars. "They're often in better shape than two-door models," Jeremy responds. He explains that four-door cars were typically family vehicles, taken care of over the years. They are frequently discovered untouched in barns and can be incredible finds. "Plus, with four doors, you get more space and a better view," he adds. "And they're unique at car shows—people love to see something different."

Continuing their tour, they encounter Vince, a customer thrilled to have found a rare four-barrel carburettor for his 1970 Eldorado. "These parts are hard to come by," Vince explains, "Walking out of here with a find like this is a great start to the day."

Trent Browne, the owner of Browne Auto Salvage, takes Fletch on a drive-by tour of the savage yard, pointing out the various models and their respective years. The vast collection and Trent’s extensive knowledge of these classics leave a lasting impression.

Trent summarises the operation succinctly: "We've been here since 2005, with about 4,000 cars on 38 acres, focusing on classic vehicles but also stocking a variety of makes and models." Browne Auto Salvage stands as a testament to the enduring passion for classic cars. It beautifully blends history with modern demand, offering enthusiasts a golden opportunity to restore and cherish these timeless machines.
