Fletch is out and about, and he catches up with two equally passionate motoring enthusiasts. Kat is a diehard enthusiast and professional photographer, and her one true love is a 1967 VW Type 3 Squareback. The car has a fascinating history over its four owners, including surviving a 20-year stint in a New Mexico Barn. Kat imported the VW from California in 2013, where the last owner had given the car some attention to bring it up to its condition today. The car in the original Baltic Blue retains its LHD configuration with a 1600 engine and 4-speed manual gearbox. Maintained in immaculate condition, 'Thelma', as Kat has named her, has won the Best VW Squareback Type 3 an impressive six times at the Vintage VW Nationals. Kat's proudest moment was when Thelma was recognised as one of Australia's Top 10 VW's in 2014. Thelma means everything to Kat. It is something special to her and is shown in how the car is presented.
Next is semi-retired panel beater Keith with his dog Zara and his shed; well, you can hardly call it a shed. More a warehouse where he has set up a complete workshop including all the equipment from his panel beating business, where he can now work exclusively from home on his projects, and he has quite a few. Keith's talent comes to the fore where he can undertake almost every aspect of a car restoration himself, from the skills that he has acquired over many years in his panel beating business. His projects are not small, the complete restoration of his son's 1971 HG Holden station wagon, an HQ Holden Statesman that was a Bash Car in a previous life and a 1955 Customised Chevy Truck. Keith talks us through each of the restorations, and you can hear and see the passion he has for these cars and the restoration process. He is meticulous in everything he does, and his craftsmanship is apparent.
