Parkes Enthusiasts at the Dish: Classic Restos - Series 45

Fletch's journey across NSW continues with a visit to Parkes, in the Central West. Home to the landmark CSIRO Radio Telescope that makes a striking feature in this beautiful landscape. Courtesy of the Central West Car Club and Jo Flemming the Shannons Regional Development Officer for the region, Fletch meets with car club members who have come out to show their prized possessions and get their inside story. 

The Central West Car Club was formed in 1968 and is one of the oldest Car Clubs in NSW. The club started with a group of enthusiasts interested in Hill Climbs and has now broadened to include over 300 members.

First up is Scott with his 1978 HZ Holden Monaro GTS, a beautifully presented model in original condition, sporting a 308 5.0 Litre V8, radial tuned suspension, and four-wheel disc brakes. Scott is only the third owner and says it was always his plan to get a GTS and now that Holdens are no longer in production; they are becoming more collectable and harder to find. 

Next is Jeff with a 1970 VG Valiant 2 door coupe, it's not your standard Valiant colour, Jeff's is in Jindabyne Mauve. An original Holden, 60s pastel colour that he thinks suits the car, along with matching red steel wheels and white roof. It is a magnificent paint job and one that stands out from the crowd. Jeff says it's a big car that seats six comfortably and lopes along drawing plenty of interest, it's a regular feature in the Parkes Elvis Easter Parade. 

Shannons Regional Development Officer, Jo Flemming, not only talks the talk, but she walks the walk, sharing her passion and love of Holdens with other enthusiasts. Her modified EH Holden ute finished in ivory and turquoise is in spectacular condition inside and out. With a fuel-injected 186 XU1 engine and triple carburetters under the hood. When Jo's father sold his EH Holden, Jo was so disappointed that she vowed to get one and eventually found this beautiful EH fully modified EH Ute online.
