Monbulk Car Show - Classic Restos - Series 42
Fletch heads to the picturesque township of Monbulk in the Dandenong Ranges, for the Annual Community Car Show. Over 500 vehicles including Australian Classics, European marques, custom cars and even some ex-race cars have turned out for the event, with all proceeds going to the Local Community CFA.
Fletch gets amongst the cars and chats with their owners. Like Ian with his 1973 Ford Escort (LHD) imported from Cologne, Germany via New Zealand. Ian's vehicle is one of the last of the models and has some non- standard features, like sports instrumentation.
A car that has been with the one owner for 45 years is Jarrod's 1975 LH Torana with a 2563 4.2 litre V8 4 speed transmission. Interestingly, when manufacturing the model, they painted different panels on different days. Which is why the panel colours on Jarrod's Torana don't match if you look closely. Jarrod says over the 45-year journey, there have been many times that financially they needed cash for one thing or another, but his wife resisted and always said 'don't sell the car'.
For Mopar collectors and there are many, Matthew has an excellent example of a 1970 Chrysler Valiant Regal sporting a 245 Hemi 6 that is a great ride with plenty of power. Matthew attends car shows and Mopar events across the state.
Another great vehicle on display is Dylan's 1959 Buick Invicta which he has customised without losing the classic look of the Invicta, with possibly the most prominent fins of that era. A significant addition is the custom air-ride suspension that allows for the ride to be adjusted, and changes look of the car dramatically.
