Meredith Car Show & Family Day: Classic Restos - Series 39

By Shannons - Published on 15 January 2019

Fletch heads south to Meredith in Victoria for a Car Show and Family  Day hosted by 'Old Skool Street Cars Geelong'. This small club of only 70 or so members, has over the last 7 years put on this event that now attracts up to 700 cars and 200 motorcycles.

Moving through the impressive array of cars, Fletch gets the inside story on just a couple of these classic cars.  There's John with a very rare 1968 6 cylinder 2.9-litre MGB. Des with a very popular 1978 CL Charger 2-door, in unrestored condition, passed down through the family and still turning heads today. Another Mopar but this time from the US, a 1957 Desoto 2 door imported back in 2003 and a history of just only two owners. There are plenty of Australian classics on show, but Fletch pics out Tommy with his 1973 XA Ford Falcon 2-door Superbird with a 302 4.9 litre V8,  the car is a  complete restoration after his father crashed the car and Tommy took on the task of rebuilding it to the same spec as his father had it. Finally, we have Joe with a 1963 XL Ford Falcon Ute that was customised around 7 years ago, but still retains the beautiful lines of the XL, just enough customisation without going over the top, featuring a V8 4-speed manual and with this lightweight body has plenty of go.

A  massive event and goes to show with the support of the local community and in particular the Meredith Cricket Club who gave them access to the cricket ground, people will come to these events and raise money for worthwhile charities, on this an occasion the Maddie Foundation.

Well done to all concerned.

Hello guys. Thank you once again as we move through another weekly episode of Classic Restos. I may not reply every time individually to each comment, but rest assured, I read each one and your positive words are always entertaining and appreciated. I want to also thank you for supporting the Shannons Club site here, where there's really cool stuff to go look at. Welcome Glynnie - I was actually nodding my head agreeing as I was reading each point that you were making. Again thank you. Cheers Guys, Fletch :-)

That original Charger is a beauty. Rare combo and I love the colour. The lime glaze XA is fantastic. I love a car with a good back story as well. Good on him for keeping it alive. I love the wheels on it too. He resisted the temptation to go overboard with mod's, which I love also. So nice to see he has an information board set up near the car. I get frustrated at shows when I find a great car I am curious about but there is no info available.

Hey Fletch ! ~~ So hard to pick a favourite from the sweet rides on display there !
A brief glimpse of many cars other than those focused on looked fantastic too.
(you could have done three shows there on the one day with 700 cars)
Peggy Sue got my attention but I kept drifting back to the Orange Charger 318 manual....sigh.. .

The Old Skool club needs to be commended for their Family Friendly policy, and how well organised the event was.
    .
    Shiny side up Fletch !
