Father & Daughter Enthusiasts: Classic Restos - Series 51
Fletch travels to meet the father & daughter team, Andrew & Kate.
They both share a passion for older cars, a 1964 EH Holden Wagon for Andrew and a 1956 Morris Oxford Series 2 for Kate. This week's story is as much about the two people as their love for their cars.
Andrew's story is about the EH Holden Wagon that his daughter spotted on the side of the highway and told her father, who she knew was looking for an EH restoration project.
As the story reveals, the EH Wagon was a big project. The vehicle was not in a good way, and many would not have considered it possible. It was the commitment of Andrew's family and his daughter Kate who took the project step by step, doing everything themselves.
The result is exceptional; a fully restored EH Wagon with the original motor bored out to a 186, and new reproduction trim completes the resto. The restoration took two years; Andrew said that by doing something, however small, every day kept the project on track.
The EH means everything to Andrew and his family. The experience and enjoyment of working with Kate on the project was an additional bonus.
There are two sides to this story. Kate had a lightbulb moment after restoring her father's car, which she enjoyed and wanted to undertake on her vehicle, a 1956 Morris Oxford Series 2.
Like her father's EH, the Morris was in a bad state of affairs and required a complete bare metal restoration, an enormous task for a young 21-year-old. But with Kate's passion and desire to chase her dreams, she completed the restoration just one day short of two years, ably assisted by her father throughout the project.
