Classic Collectors: Classic Restos - Series 52
In this episode of Classic Restos, Fletch meets two enthusiasts with different motoring interests, but their passion is the same.
First up is Doug from the ACT, who embarked on a quest to find a 1953 Chevrolet. He found one thanks to a dealer in Queensland and through diligent online searching. After a brief discussion, Doug was assured by the dealer that the car was free of any rust prompting him to make the purchase. Interestingly, the vehicle came with Queensland plates that read 'Chev 52', sparking a debate among onlookers. Some argued that the car was a '53 Chevy, contradicting the number plates, while others held the opposite view.
Despite giving it a fresh coat of paint, Doug has diligently maintained the car in its original condition. While transferring the car's registration to a Club Registration, Doug delved into its history and discovered that it had initially resided in the ACT before finding its way to Brisbane. So now the car has finally returned home and rests securely in Doug's tender care. He proudly belongs to the Southern Tablelands Historical Automobile Restoration Club (STHARC).
Next, we have Phil, a multi-faceted enthusiast and collector. Alongside his passion for model ship building and an impressive book collection, Phil's prized possession, the rare 1949 MG TC Roadster, takes centre stage on today's show. Phil's TC boasts a 1250cc XPAG engine with overhead valves, maintaining its pristine original condition in the classic Old English Ivory finish. These remarkable models were produced in the immediate aftermath of World War II, between 1945 and 1949.
There is much more to Phil's story than just his MG TC. Fletch uncovers an intriguing aspect when Phil begins cataloguing his lifetime inventory of cars, all of which he not only acquired but also meticulously restored himself. Phil's automotive expertise and dedication extend far beyond mere collecting; they embody a rich history of car restoration.
