Chryslers on the Murray is the largest Chrysler event in Australia, hosted by the Albury Wodonga Chrysler Club, attracting a record 900+ cars. Fletch is there again, so you don't miss any of the action. The weekend kicks of with 'The Sprints' and 'Go to Whoa' action at the track, followed by 'The Great Reveal' on Friday night where eight very special Mopars are unveiled.
Fletch talks to some Mopar owners about their cars and their history. Mick, with his concourse condition 1965 AP6 Valiant Wagon (Canadian Version) the result of a 5-year renovation completed just before this year's event. The car was untested but felt good, so he entered it in the Sprints on Friday to see how it would go. Now on display at the showground, Mick tells how he saw the car on the street in Adelaide and chased down the driver and purchased the car from him. While it appears to look period correct inside and out under the bonnet, he has shoehorned a 5.7 Gen 3 Hemi along with new running gear. He loves this model and says it has style written all over it, and we agree.
Next up is Tommy with his Gen 3 Hemi, a Modified 1969 VF 4 -door Valiant that generates 500 horsepower and has owned for 16-17 years. The car is otherwise stock standard and in entirely original condition.
AMC has always had a connection with Chrysler and features at this year's event again. Reno with his 1966 Rambler Classic 770 with a 287 V8 represents the AMC fraternity. His father purchased the car in 1966 for $4,000, twice the cost of a Falcon at the time. Reno's Rambler has been in the one family since new but spent 10-15 years in a shed before a full restoration by Reno over 5-years.
This year there is a spotlight on American Muscle Cars from 62-74. Glen is here with his American Muscle Car a 1971 340 Demon. In Australia, Valiants were the derivative of these cars. Back in 1972 there was a backlash over the name 'Demon' and was later changed to the Dodge Dart. This car was considered a plain jane, entry-level Muscle Car in America but very much the wolf in sheep's clothing.
