Adam’s Man Cave in the Bush: Classic Restos - Series 58

By Shannons - Published on 21 March 2025

Fletch travels north of Goulburn, NSW, to the property of Adam and Cathy Lawrence, specifically to Adam's man cave in the bush. Man caves have become popular not just in Australia but around the world. They serve as domestic museums, housing impressive automotive collections and memorabilia, and Adam's is no exception.

With over 35 years of experience in the automotive industry, Adam is a die-hard motoring enthusiast and the proud owner of Jim Wall Automotive in Mittagong, NSW. His enduring passion for Holden vehicles has been influenced by a family legacy of Holden ownership and his extensive experience buying and selling cars in the automotive trade. This deep-seated love for the brand is reflected in his man cave, which houses four exquisite Holden cars that have been meticulously maintained, all while adhering closely to their original specifications. To call this space a cave is an understatement; it is a purpose-built facility equipped with climate control; it serves as the final resting place for both his prized cars and a wealth of memorabilia he has collected over the last 25 to 30 years. Each item in his collection holds a special significance, providing Adam with a serene environment where he can unwind, work on his cars, or simply admire his automotive treasures.

Among his prized possessions is his 1986 VK 05 Holden Commodore, a car that captured his admiration when he was younger, particularly when he watched the legendary Peter Brock behind the wheel.  Adam notes that this car turns heads wherever it goes, whether he’s merely stopping for petrol or cruising down the road. People are always eager to inquire about it. He relishes the experience of driving all his cars, particularly this one, with the windows down so he can hear the exhaust and feel the thrill of shifting through the gears—an experience he describes as nothing short of exhilarating and soothing to the soul.

Another standout in Adam's collection is the 1990 HSV 5 Litre Clubsport, which he acquired in 2016 as a project in average condition.  It had arrived as a collection of parts
that Adam enthusiastically put back together, transforming it into a stunning representation of the original model.

He also owns a 1990 VN Commodore 5-speed Manual HSV, which debuted with a range of new engineering features and quickly became a highly sought-after performance vehicle. Among the high-performance models in his collection is a 1990 SV5000 automatic adorned in British Racing Green, which Adam acquired just a couple of years ago and required only some tidying up to restore its former glory.

Adam admires the motoring era that produced these remarkable vehicles, inspired by Brock's philosophy of following your dreams. His collection and man cave embody the fulfilment of those aspirations. Rounding off his impressive lineup is another cherished VN Commodore—a 1989 Holden Commodore Berlina, preserved in its original condition and boasting only 58,000 kilometres on the clock. From Adam’s perspective, this vehicle perfectly completes his suite of Holdens.

Adam is a content man, happily immersed in his dream man cave, showcasing a classic car collection that any enthusiast would envy, complemented by a tool setup that will impress. It’s an experience well worth seeing.
