2024 Carlisle Chrysler Nationals - Part 1: Classic Restos - Series 56
Fletch is back in the USA for the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals and 50th Anniversary of Carlisle Events. It's the largest Chrysler event globally, featuring 8,000 automotive vendors and 2,900 Mopars on display. There are miles of roads to explore at the event with a variety of Mopars: the quality of the vehicles is exceptional. The flea market and Manufacturers Midway offered an endless array of parts, accessories, and memorabilia, catering to everyone, whether a Mopar fan or not.
Doing the rounds of this massive event, Fletch spotted a fleet of Dodge Li’l Red Express Trucks from the 1978-1979 era and had the chance to chat with the proud owner, Jason. He shared the intriguing history of these trucks, once hailed as the fastest commercial vehicles, equipped with a 360 225 hp 4-barrel carburettor and auto trans. Their production was halted after just two years due to the government classifying them as hot rod trucks. Today, they are highly sought-after and collectible vehicles in the US.
Fletch also had the opportunity to speak with Bill Miller, the Founder of Carlisle Events, who reflected on the 50th Anniversary of his events company and the success of gatherings like the Chrysler Nationals.
Another highlight was meeting Chrysler fan Dick with his '71 Dodge Demon, presented in the striking ''Plum Crazy'' colour that Chrysler was known for. The Demon 340 is a budget powerhouse, with a seriously powerful and relatively lightweight 340 under the hood. Owner Dick purchased the car new in 1971 when only a student at 17 years of age. The vehicle transitioned from being a street car to a drag racing machine and then spent 28 years in a barn with a blown motor before being fully restored and brought back into circulation.
Two race legends, Buddy Martin of Sox Martin Racing and Mike Buckle, renowned for his '64 RamCharger, chatted with Fletch. Both have Mopar racer cars faithfully restored to their original condition, sporting their famous livery of the day. They proudly showcased Mopar's racing history at the Chrysler Nationals for 2024.
Stay tuned for part 2 of the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals.
