2016 Burt Munro Challenge - Invercargill NZ: Classic Restos Series 33

Fletch is in Invercargill New Zealand for the 2016 Burt Munro Challenge or 'The Burt' as the locals refer to it. Invercargill on the very southern tip of New Zealand is the classic motorcycle capital of New Zealand, and made famous by Burt Munro who's life story was captured in the movie 'The Fastest Indian' with Anthony Hopkins playing the part of NZ's very own Burt Munro.
The Burt Munro Challenge comprises 4 days of two-wheel racing - Day 1 kicks off with 'The Bluff" Hillclimb followed by Supercross racing at local Winton dairy farmer's home built international speedway track. Day 2 returns to the now famous Oreti Beach, a 26km stretch of perfectly smooth sand where Burt Munro created two New Zealand Open Beach records in 1957 (131.38 mph) and again in 1975 where he bettered his own record with a 136mph. Today 130 riders will compete in a 50km beach race, Fletch talks to some interesting competitors. Day 3 heads to the Teretonga Raceway home of the Southland Motor Sports Club for some high-speed circuit racing featuring over 30 Classic bikes. On the final day, there is Speedway racing action from Oreti Park and as a finale, racing through the streets of Invercargill. 4 Days of classic motorcycle racing in all its forms as a tribute to local hero Burt Munro.
