History
This 1958 Plymouth Belvedere was in a dealer's collection in St. Louis, Missouri. It didn't sell at the end of the year so it was tucked away in a warehouse. It is believed that the accessories (Twin stem mirrors, front and rear bumper wing tips, air conditioning, Twin antennas, plastic seat and door panel covers and under seal) were put on in an attempt to make the car easier to sell. It didn't work.
Roll forward to 1985 and the dealership owner (Ray Rixman, as seen on the deck lid sticker), passed away and the car was sold at auction to a gentleman in Pensacola, Florida. The car was then purchased by the father of Aaron Kahlenburg (being the gentleman that documented the Christine movie car graveyard) he received the car as a High School Graduation gift (being an avid fan of the movie Christine).Aaron’s father flew to Florida and drove the car to Detroit in the middle of winter 1985. The car had 6400 miles on the odometer at the time he picked it up... and it had 7500 miles on it two days later! The only failure on the trip was a failed generator.
The car was stored in Detroit for about a year, participated in Chrysler's 60th Anniversary, and was shipped by Chrysler to Los Angeles. For the next 20 years it was parked in Aaron’s garage and spent some time on display in the Petersen Automotive museum in Los Angeles. During the years it went through about 5 generators... until it was discovered that a bad ground wire from the engine to the firewall had caused the failures. After that there were no more problems with it. The brakes were replaced once (around 2003) and the water pump was rebuilt in 1988. Before the car made its way to Australia the wheel rims were powder coated the argent (silver) colour and the correct 7.50-14 Goodyear Super cushion wide whitewall tyres installed. Over the years the car was featured in several magazines and books, copies of these books remain with the car. These books include such notable publications as Collector Car Magazine (cover), My Classic car magazine (cover), Collectible Automobile magazine (Feature) and “Chrylser” by Dennis Adler (feature). This 1958 Plymouth is a time capsule and is original and u********* with ultra low documented miles. Considering the age of the car, the paint is in incredible condition as is the unmarked original interior. Fitted with the original Power Pak 318ci and includes the four barrel carburettor, matching intake and special air filter. Included are the power pak high performance camshafts and dual free flow exhausts, giving the car that unmistakable rumble. This Belvedere would have to be one of the lowest mileage examples of its type in the World and has been cherished its whole life. The car was cared for by her previous owner in South Australia for ten years and has now made her way to Perth and my care. I am very lucky to own this piece of American motoring heritage and being an original red and white 58 Plymouth 4 door sport sedan hard top, she is probably the closest original car to the original book version of Christine
