1965 Morris Mini Monaco

History

My Father and I purchased this Monaco in March 1997 from a chap in Burleigh Heads, Queensland. It was in a slightly rough state that would make for a great restoration. Bill Buckle did a conversion on Minis back in the late 60's to create the fastback known as a Monaco. Only 20-30 of them were converted. The roof line is three and a half inches lower than a regular Mini. The roof is all fibre glass. The strip down started in 2006 and the body was sent to the body shop for work and the spray job. It is in Ford Ultra Red with Peugeot Silver stripes. My Dad did all the engine work, completely rebuilding the Mark 1 Cooper S engine with light weight components, he then restored the sub frames etc. Unfortunately before he could complete the restoration/rebuild he passed away very suddenly from multiple brain tumours. To complete the job without my Dad was one of the most scariest things I have ever done but with the help of my hubby James we completed the rebuild in 6 months including 3 months at the trimmers. I am thrilled with the finished product and I know my Dad would be very happy with it too.
