Thanks guys. Glad you like the story and thanks for sharing your own Escort experiences. The work that the boys at Boreham put into those rally cars to make them world beaters was incredible. I particularly remember the Mikkola/Palm 1970 World Cup Rally winner (below) with the tubular steel braces that ran forward from the roll cage to the front suspension towers on each side. Ford claimed at the time they were to carry a shield to deflect condors and other large birds found in South America. Later, though, works driver Timo Makinen let it slip that they were really there just to stop the car breaking in half! True story.
