That's a big part of the historic appeal of Group C, Monaro23D. They were literally hotted-up road cars using mostly bolt-on race parts. They could easily be returned to road duties and as you say many were. It was fascinating to watch the race development of Holden's first V8 Torana under Group C, from the SL/R 5000 to the L34 to the A9X. I'll always be amazed that Holden produced road-registerable cars fitted with fiberglass wheel-arch flares, front and rear spoilers and bonnet scoops (A9X) purely for racing purposes. That was serious commitment by The General!
Recently completed restoration of this L34 which competed in the Touring Car Championship between 1974 and 1977 with privateer Kel Gough. Subesquently road registered once its racing days were over. Now returned to its 1976 livery and debuted at the 50th anniversary of the L34 at Phillip Island last March.
