Speedway's most famous XB was the #68 coupe driven by Bruce Maxwell in the mid-70s on Liverpool's pavement oval. The car started as reasonably stock in appearances but as each week went by the tyres grew wider and wider. Chris Strode, #31, won the tyre width "battle". Maxwell's car did not last long at Liverpool. Faster, light weight chassis-style cars quickly evolved. Maxwell shifted to a bespoke Mustang.
