This is a job I remember doing on my old Galant - changing the indicator/wiper stalks. The indicator stalks are greased on one side (you can see some silicon grease on these) and when that goes dry, it causes the indicator mechanism to bind and snap the detente that holds the stalk in place so whenever you indicate that side you have to hold the stalk in place, I could swear this replacement would fit a 1974 Galant. These were surprisingly inexpensive although I vaguely recall that you do have to do some contortions to reach the wiring harness connector which is attached somewhere on the steering column, well under the dash. Will end up sacrificing a little blood to reach it today. This is on my list of annoying potential rego failures that includes a broken windshield washer bottle, broken tail lights, wiring faults, tires, ripped vinyl flooring and an exhaust that is more holes than metal. I replaced the seatbelts the day I moved it off the farm but couldn't get the right colours, so they are gray. If you peruse the other photos you can see this car has basically no options selected. It doesn't have A/C, the windows are wind-up, there is no tachometer. It has vinyl seats and a vinyl floor. I'm not sure if power steering was an option, somebody must have ticked that box - it's very light and has no feel to it which is weird in a vehicle that can't weight more than 1200kg running on pizza cutting 185R14C tyres.
