The Cortina was important but did it really set a higher standard for small-medium cars? The RO80 reflected some Citroen influence and looked like a contender for best car in the world, but we know about the terminal issues with NSU's application of the Wankel engine. Yes, the 1953 Fiat 1100 advanced the small car art but surely the 1948 Issigonis Minor (two years before my starting point in this post) was the main breakthrough. The Volvo Amazon was good but did not represent a major advance over the Peugeot 403. Our wonderful 1967 Falcon GT was love-child to the V8 Mustang. Yes, Bill Bourke's Ford LTD was a great hit in Oz. The FE Holden was brilliant but not much of an advance over the FJ, all things considered.
