Mercedes and Lincoln had no problems when looking through their three and four pointed stars sitting on top of their bonnets, as they're the same which ever side you are looking through. For that wonderfully glorious market-place failure, the 1958 Edsel, the stylists wanted a stand-alone E on top of the 'horse-collar' grille. Made of chrome and clear plastic, it was designed so that the E appeared properly from the front as well as through the windscreen. Apparently a highly prized collector's item today.
