Mate, that's an amazing story that really shows the power of some good customer service. I have worked on the phones for a major insurer and have had plenty of customers mention a poor experience they had previously, only for me to check the notes and discover it was 10 years or more prior! When my now late wife and I walked into Smiths of Port Adelaide with the very real intent to buy a brand new, 2004 VYII Holden SS ute with the $7100 Sandman Canopy option, we were served by a salesman who complained the boss had gone home early, taking their only SS demo. He went on to say that he barely sees his wife, hardly knows his kids and that we should come back later in the week when the car was back. Having also worked in the harsh world of auto sales, I can sympathise; six-day weeks aren't fun, and that was from a time before I had kids. But still, it's not a good sales tactic. We went up the road to Metro Holden. They didn't have a manual ute to test, so we took an auto out, then took out a manual SS sedan to kinda amalgamate the two experiences. Dude bent over backwards for us and we signed up. It too was the first and only new car we ever bought and although I was already a Holden guy, I still have that 2004 VYII SS Sandman. Here it is here: https://www.shannons.com.au/club/enthusiasts/garageofawesome/garage/2004-holden-ss-vyii-sandman-by-hbd/ This isn't for an online show and shine or anything. Just thought you might want to have a squiz. Have even uploaded a photo of the dealer presenting us the car!
