I'm not so sure as to whether the HQ would have done well in the US. WE know and love it, but as with most things about the US (and from my experience, the UK), the Not Invented Here syndrome runs strong; remember the Monaro was met with a luke-warm reception, both as a Pontiac and as a Vauxhall. Back in the '50s, Buick and Pontiac dealers were reluctant to sell Opel and Vauxhall respectively - an Opel Kadett looked ridiculous in the same showroom as an Electra 225. Which dealer chain would have taken Holden on? Pricing would have been on line with the Chevy Nova or even Chevelle and Pontiac Le Mans. It would have been an extra name-plate to market, which is expensive. Would an HQ have stood out in this company?
