The first E-Type Coupe I ever saw was in Toorak Road one night in the early '60s. It was about a six inches shorter than Bill Lyons ever envisaged. It had been sitting behind a Morris Major which was behind a Mini 850 when a drunk in an FB Holden slid along the tram-tracks into the back of the Jag. The Mini was 'popped' through the traffic lights with minimal damage to it and the Major. The FB was crushed almost back to the windscreen, but the Jag didn't look as if it had much damage. Slightly scrunched fore and aft. However, the doors were firmly jammed shut and the unhurt driver too large to fit through the rear hatch. Apparently he had just picked it up from Brysons after waiting for it for some time. It was excruciating watching the rescue teams crow-bar the doors open. When I was working in the UK, I had to deliver this Series 2 from London to Scotland. Fabulous drive up the motorway and minor roads, except it was in light drizzle, so finding the wipers was a real chore in the identical bank of switches. The top of the screen leaked where the hood was attached, with water dripping onto my lap. Somewhat embarrassing when I got to my destination. The exchange was a Porsche 911 with 900 miles on the clock. They paid me to do it!
