The famous XC Falcon Cobra featured one of the most elaborate and eye-catching stripe treatments ever seen on an Aussie Ford. Thanks to Edsel Ford II who was working at Ford Australia at the time, the designers were let off their usually short leashes to create something spectacular to shift the remaining 400 XC Hardtops which were proving hard to sell. Former Product Planning Manager Ian Vaughan told me the batch of 400 Cobras were originally blue XC Hardtops, each of which were masked-up and then passed through a special loop on the production line to paint all the white bits. It was quite a process but they did look great on both road and track. They were also an instant sell-out (job done Edsel!) and quite a collectable today too.
