The Bend Motorsport Park officially opened in January 2018. However, my first (and only) visit to 'the bend' was at the end of the 70's when it ran a drag racing event on its newly laid bitumen straight. The big draw-card that day was the jet powered Victorian drag truck 'Waltzing Matilda' which blew everyone's mind who saw it go through its warm-up routine after dark. The only youtube footage of Waltzing Matilda is video taken off a B&W TV (but with no sound) so in order to give fellow members a taste of what I saw and heard on that day/night I've included video of Western Australian Gary Miecevich's jet truck 'Thunder Down Under' which recorded a top speed of 200mph at Willowbank in 1994.
