Like most 300C owners, tasteless modifications are an important part of ownership. I am no exception. I wanted it loud, brash and slightly menacing. Plus I wanted a taste of that 1970s vibe where the capacity of the engine was advertised somewhere on the car. The HEMI badge is from the RAM truck line. Yep, it's tasteless but I love it. This is me toning down the grill with some satin black while I am trying to finish the repairs on the front panel. Managed to glue it back together OK although it isn't perfect. The various epoxy products I tried all seem to have limitations. Could have perhaps tried proper plastic welding but it's part of the car that is hard to see so a coat of stone chip or similar will cover up most of the less than ideal seams. The best product I tried was a two part epoxy from JB Weld - either the plastic bond or the PlasticWeld are fine, although both of them are re-sealable it seems that after you open them the first time you are better of using the entire syringe in one go as leaving it for a day seems to make the later applications fail. So the lid is for decoration only. The stereo in this car was a 7 speaker Boston Audio setup, the head unit and amplifier were completely fried due to some rather haphazard wiring from the previous owner, who looked like he was running some external amps off the speaker leads. His inspiring work included using sticky tape instead of electrical tape to cover the wire joins and using a power wire from the front cigar lighter that got caught between the seat sliders on the passenger side. It was shorted and the power seat was jammed (easily fixed) but the electronics were all DOA. Between things I had lying around (the Sony head unit), Cash converters (the subwoofer), Ebay clearance sale (the JVC amp) and other places I scavenged together something that is...far louder than I anticipated. It isn't the greatest sounding setup but the bass from that $50 sub is fantastic. The rear amp is bridged to power the sub with the two main channels wired normally. The Sony has an amazing array out outputs including line level front, rear and sub connectors. The front amp is a bit of a disaster (ebay no-name chinese thing) so I plan on ditching that ASAP. It's booked in for a couple of tyres this week then blue slip attempt #2. Will be looking at the oxygen sensors this afternoon as the heater circuit on them isn't working so it runs great for 60 seconds, awful until the oxy sensors warm up, and then perfect after that. I have bought a timed relay controller to juice them for the first 60 seconds of running to get over that hump, as fixing the heater circuit issue likely requires replacing the PCM which is not happening until I track down a 2009 unit, which will suit the engine better. Also replaced the fog lamps (pretty cheap) and the little chrome moustaches as mine were cracked from a few k-mart kisses.
