Cadillac and therefore GM, got their fingers severely burnt when they introduced the Cimarron in 1983. Based on GM's J-Car it was a thinly disguised Chevrolet Cavalier, or even the Holden Camira. A car very few existing Cadillac owners wanted or indeed, anyone who aspired to owning a Cadillac. As if they hadn't learnt from that fiasco, in 1997 they introduced the Catera - the Caddie that Zigs, based on the Opel Omega and similar in looks to a VT Commodore.
