Can't agree with you on the 1100/1500 changeover, DB! Most of us at BMC at the time thought it looked as if the 1100 had been hit with the ugly stick. The prototype Nomad had been running around for a while and we were hoping that they might change the grille shape. A few of us saw a pallet load of front panels for the British 1300 version and heaved a sigh of relief. What they were doing in Australia is anyone's guess. The rear of the 1500 sedan was the same as the UK 1100/1300 from 1967 onwards, the door handles were to comply with ADRs, and were common with the local Minis and later X6 Kimberleys. In a cost cutting exercise, the chrome door cappings were removed for the 1500. From certain angles, the top of the grille looks awkward, as if it has been pushed in. When the UK 1300 GT was released just after the 1500/Nomad, I remember Evan Green remarking that this was the look we should have had.
