Don't be so hard on the humble Kombi. I once owned one in my younger carefree days and it served me well and took me may places a car would struggle. It had good traction with the weight over the rear wheels and a smooth ride with the torsion bar suspension. Not a lot of power with a 1600cc and a tiny single throat carby but no heat and fumes in the cab from a rear mounted engine which allowed you to walk from the front seats to the back with ease. Cut the kombi some slack. They are now worth big $$ for and average one and hard to find so I would call them a classic now.
