Yes, the E-Series started off as transverse engines in the British Austin Maxi and Australian Morris 1500/Nomad with 1485 cc in 1969. The stoke was lengthened to give 1748cc for the Maxi in 1970. Australia then engineered them to be north-south in the Marinas - not done in the UK, which was another local achievement. Another two cylinders made the 1500 into 2200cc for the Kimberley and the 1750 into 2600 for the local Marinas and P76. Pics left to right are Morris 1500, Marina 1750 and Marina 2600
