I stand corrected.... with time to think about it, I agree the BMW Z roadsters are pretty awesome... and I admit the early MX5 did a great job of modernising the classic MG and I have a rather large soft spot for X19's... those might well become classics in my book..... they certainly struck a chord with me anyway ..... woops, I shouldn't think so much LOL.... the BMW M1... mark 1 & 2 RX7..... Hmmmm better forget my earlier post LMAO Edit: I love how this forum gets one thinking :)
Now there you go - the early MX-5, completely forgot about that one. My wife had a 1.8 Mk1, which I scoffed at, and labelled as a hair-dressers car, as I am big brawny ex-rugby player... until I drove it. That car put a huge grin on my face after I jumped in it and went around a few corners. I remember a trip with a group of my biker mates and kept up with them along deserted main roads and even overtook a Ducati 848 doing unprintable speeds. That completely changed my view of the MX-5. I would buy another tomorrow and probably will one day, unless everyone else buys them up first! Not really thought about the RX-7 much, but I loved the styling of the Mk2 when it came out. Not driven one, but would love to. The X-19 was a challenging car to look at for me, (talking of mid-engined 'everyman' cars, I preferred the looks of the Lancia Montecarlo, not sure if that was ever imported to Aus), but it was bold and brave! The M1 is definitely already a collectors/classic car. According to Hagerty's in the US, their average value is nearly $550k US.... https://www.hagerty.com/price-guide/1979-BMW-M1 Well out of my reach :( It's good to get the grey matter working, thinking up classics of the future...
