Iconic photo of Surfers Paradise in 1960. The '59 Chev, complete with add-on indicator lights under the fins is exactly the same colour as my uncle's car. We all lived in Victoria, but every year, he would bundle his entire family of my aunt and six kids and head up to Queensland for their holidays. To me, it was as if someone nowadays had said they were going to the moon. It was almost beyond our comprehension. We were pop-eyed if a car appeared with yellow plates from New South Wales, let alone further north. My uncle's Chevrolets made perfect sense - plenty of room for a big family and as far as I know, he never had a problem with any of them.
