The first race track I went to was Sydney's Oran Park in early 1974. Main drawcard was a round of the Toby Lee Sports Sedan Series when John McCormack's new Charger with a mid-mounted Repco V8 was untouchable. I'll never forget the effect motor racing had on me that day, because until then I'd only seen it on black and white TV or in magazines like Racing Car News which were so far removed from what it was like standing at the fence; the noise (no mufflers then), the smells (Castrol R), the bright colours etc and the speeds were astonishing. I was hooked for life!
