The background is associated with a picture of a BMW R65 (from whence this cometh) in my past vehicles. Simply put, I tried to take on a speeding red Ford Escort on a freeway, and just as I opened up, the valve stem of one of the valves in the right cylinder broke. The valve gouged the inside of the cylinder (as you can see) and then punched through the piston (why didn't I keep it too?) and into the inside of the engine. Externally, there was a big bang, the back wheel stopped turning, enormous puffs of blue smoke, I - casually - pulled in the clutch, gliding to the side of the road. Sometimes, I think I heard raucous laughter from the Escort. As was usual with my bike shop (BVM Moto in Stroud), they said they would fix it, but gave me a demonstrator R80RT to keep me going. Every time I rang up to ask about progress with the repair, they would say 'So, how do you like the R80?'. That kept going until I said 'I guess it's OK'; and then they suggested that for a very reasonable price, and almost certainly a lot less than the cost of the repair, I could buy the demonstrator. So I did.
