The Mini is a good case in point. George Harriman, BMC's Managing Director, after seeing the finished product remarked that it will look good after the styling department adds some chrome to it. Enzo Ferrari walked around one before they were announced -"Don't change a thing, it's perfect". So much for the wisdom of those who ran BMC in the day. Leyland had a go at upgrading the Mini with the long-nose Clubman in 1970. Some loved it, most hated it. It took away the basic concept of what the car was about in the first place. Must admit, I love mine....
