I thought this announcement from F1 was a bit of a joke at first, but then I thought it could be a great idea.: The FIA has told teams that they are allowed to mount mirrors directly to the halo instead of the cockpit if they so choose. The sport’s technical department has written to teams explaining that it was happy for teams to use the halo to mount the mirrors, provided they were sufficiently stable. This makes sense to me, because if the height of the mirror can give a better view of cars following there will be less chance of a hit.
