I bought my wife a lime green Escort 1300XL manual and we had it for about 5 years of trouble free motoring. The one problem we had ( caused by me ) was a broken off bolt in the block which had to hold on the water pump. the other 2 bolts and some of Allan Moffats Silastic fixed the problem. Never leaked again.The finish on this car was great and we all enjoyed it, but when the 1982 Toyota Celica came to be, it was traded on one of those. I was working at AWA at the time and a fellow from the Ford Homebush plant, Jeff ??? used to come down to Ashfield from time to time and liase with the Car Audio dept. about the supply to the plant of car radios etc and I was amused when he related a story of an incident during production when the line managed to assemble an Escort which was 2 door one side and 4 door the other. He indicated it was subsequently sold to a newsagent for "paper delivery throwing. I wonder if it still exists ??
