An interesting back story to the 1973 B1000 was Ford's late homologation of rear disc brakes for the Hardtops just in time for Bathurst. Ford team boss Howard Marsden successfully argued that the four-wheel-disc Landau was a "variant of the V8 Hardtop" and given that it had been produced in sufficient numbers by then, the XA GTs were allowed to use rear discs at Bathurst. That decision was decisive in Ford's win that year.
