Joe - just following up on the FE/Kapitan similarities, I've just scanned a few images from the 1954 brochure. You can see the real GM look here and you wonder how much was done in conjunction with each other. Even the arm-rests are similar, door handles were the same from memory, and I think the interior handles were the same, but these were standard right across the GM range - Chevrolet, Holden and Opel etc. The wiper pattern looks similar as does the push up vent. The Opel only had a 6 volt system even through to 1957 at least. Also, GMH really saved a bundle on the FB/EK upgrade as there were so many inner and outer panels common with the earlier cars. A few times, my FE was parked next to all the reps' Freeways - similar height and length, but FE wider. The FE had flat floors making it easier to sweep out - my Freeway has sills 12 cms deep (just measured them!)
