Yes Pony, thanks for the memory. Here's a few more. 1/ St, A racing car news write up of a very very wet Catalina 2/ Following Max Stewart through Dunlop in that race. If you look carefully you can see me shielding my visor from the spray with my right hand. 3/ Just passed Mike Champion into Dunlop Max saved both our lives in that race by being a switched on bloke. It was so wet at above about 50 MPH the spray was so thick that from behind another car you had a complete white out. You could only tell where they were by looking up to find the rooster tails coming off their wheels. Max realised I would not be able to see the checker flag fall at the finish, I had not seen my pit signals either so had no idea of how many laps we'd done. as I was only inches behind him slip streaming to keep up with his higher power, he knew I would drive over him if he slowed at flag fall, so drove on at full race speed to Dunlop where we slowed enough to see each other, & gave me a big "patting the dog" slow down signal. I loved racing Max, he was so good he drove his car to the inch, & you knew he wouldn't do anything silly. So bad he was killed aquaplaning into the fence off the straight at a badly maintained Calder.
