Great write-up for which many thanks. We had two 16TS Specials and my father had a new 16TS in 1970. I don't think I've ever driven anything to match the 16 as a completely integrated design. The front end problems were solved using South African wishbones, reinforced in design and the later cars didn't chew outer driveshaft joints, which were double Hook Joints and did die! They were great camping holiday cars for young families - four sets of friends at Easter 1982 shown on the photo. August or September 2015 Classic and Sports Car magazine has an article on the 16. They almost understand the car but failed to mention its sporting success in Oz, where it won numerous state championships in almost unmodified form. I used to cruise ours at 140 kph (South Australia before the speed limit) in great comfort, revelling in its excellent directional stability. Yes, I miss ours greatly. I'd like a new one with AC and power steering. My approximation to that is a Citroen Xantia, also a large hatchback. Renault had one other earlier FWD vehicle by the way, the Estafette van. Another very clever and versatile vehicle. There's a good one for sale right now - go hunt on www.aussiefrogs.com !
