The EA Scorcher was built as close to OEM standard as we could make it, apart from the interior which was designed in partnership with Sony to optimise its incredible in-car entertainment system. One of my favourite shots of the Scorcher (below) was on Ford's high-speed banked oval accompanied by a pair of the then-latest AU Falcons. We ran it flat-out and achieved a top speed just shy of 220km/h before having to back off when (not surprisingly) the tailshaft started to vibrate. Even so, I was surprised how rock-steady the EA Falcon was at those speeds. It not only looked good but with its modified 240kW 5.0-litre EFI 'Windsor' V8 that two-door was a real goer!
