I guess an update is due on my motorcycling activity. The Guzzi has been remarkably easy to own - it's getting cold up here and the cold start mechanism wasn't working correctly which made starting it a pain. This was easily fixed. There is no choke, but there is an enrichment circuit that's activated by a handlebar trigger. The trigger was fouling on other handlebar stuff. Turning that a fraction around fixed the travel issue and now the bike still takes a few goes to start in the cold but it's vastly improved. At one point I had a small oil leak from the breather system which dribbed back to the rear of the gearbox, unfortunately lubricating the gear linkage off. I thought I had lost something important and wasted 45 minutes walking up and down the road looking for what I thought was missing. Giving up, I rode home in 5th gear (surprisingly easy, that v-twin is all torque) and once in the shed found the missing part still attached to the pedal. I'm still a pretty slow rider in the corners but that has also improved somewhat. I do occasionally commute on the 'Guzzi but the number of inattentive drivers in my town make that a bit of an adventure. All the advice you get as a learner about making yourself visible and positioning on the road to avoid the phone zombies behind the wheel does work. The big Yamaha FJ1200 got new fork seals and is ready to go but I've still got 3 months on my P's so I can't ride it yet. Have joined a club so I can put that bike on historic rego. While I was briefly between jobs I bought the cheapest bike on Facebook marketplace that appealed to me - a JDM Kawasaki GPZ400R. It wasn't running or complete so I've spent quite a bit of time chasing plastic bits for it, some instruments etc. Much to my surprise the seized engine and clutch have both resolved themselves with patience and a little violence and it runs remarkably well. My mate has suggested it might make a fun track bike and I concur. To that end I've bought a set of second hand leathers and we'll spend the next few months beating the GPZ into shape before heading north over the border to Willowbank.
