One of the rarest Australian Fords is the 1946 to '48 Mercury Club Coupe Utility. It is thought about 70 were produced, making it relatively scarce, with perhaps five survivors today. The Mercury Ute was made at the Geelong factory. The front section was constructed using knock down kits from Canada (who handled right hand drive markets), but the rear section was completely Australian designed and also used on the Ford V8 Coupe Utility. The wheelbase was 118 inches, 4 inches longer than the contemporary Ford Ute. As the brochure points out it was 'for a man of substance', which maybe a 1940s term for wealthy farmers. Apparently a good proportion went to Queensland.
