In South Australia in the 70's I saw Malalla fold to be replaced by A.I.R. then Rowley Park speedway closed in favour of Speedway Park. Both cases were justified at the time as the end result was to bring all forms of motor sport together in an 'out of town' location which still suited everyone. We all loved Rowley Park on Friday nights but between the noise and the dust this inner suburban venue had to go. Since those days I saw a second Drag Strip open at Tailum Bend near Murray Bridge in 1980 and (much later) A.I.R close its gates in favour of a new circuit at Tailum Bend. Oh well, that's progress I suppose! I'm so glad our mecca still exists - 48 years on from when I took this photo in 1972.
