Maybe now. Don't forget, back in the day, Ford had 1,000 XC 2dr body shells they couldn't sell; hence why XD on only 4 door. Demand wasn't there. The "Cobra's" weren't an "eagerly awaited car everyone wanted" - they were a "how to get rid of them" scheme. Ford were going to sell the "unwanted" 2 drs at a cheap price. Edsel Ford II was visiting. He said - "No - people LOVE a limited edition". So they numbered them, and sold them for extra.Brilliant marketing. Saying the above is sacrilege NOW forgets that in 1985; that Landau was "just a ten year oldish car." If someone was cutting up a 12 year old Commodore/Falcon NOW - would anyone be all "upset about the sacrilege?" Doubt it. The "Golden Age" is NEVER the "present one." We let a lot of old cars come and go. It was no big deal at the time - that's life. The memories and the good times you had in and around them? Priceless. :-) Oh - limited editions - the "LE Monaro." THAT was a "get rid of options no one wanted" exercise. It had an 8 track (what the? In an era which had long moved on to cassette tapes), and "Honeycomb mags" - which were a standard steel wheel which had a rubber/plastic honeycomb feature "stuck on". So many cry about these cars.............. but those of us who grew up with them? They were just "there" - and while we enjoyed them; most didn't keep them - some never bothered to buy them. I am surrounded by people who moan about "how great the old cars were." I have 8 vehicles, and most of them old. Those same people who lament "didn't keep/greatest car ever" are the same ones who say to me "Still driving that old......." - and couldn't WAIT to show off an ever increasing list of NEW cars!!! Doesn't make sense.But people never let reality/facts get in the way of romance and nostalgia. (Picard gets it :-) )
