In one of Life's Great Mysteries, what was the first thing to be bolted into an Austin 1800 when it hit the assembly line? Did they build the car around the heater? Was the dash all in one unit when it was installed? Where did they attach the fluid suspension couplings and how did they pressurise it on the line? They can't have just dropped the body shell over the engine and radiator, as there's no way it can fit, so how did they do that? To think that as part of my training, I showed people around the Sydney factory, and can't remember any of these life-important details, which would make working with my car today a lot easier... So, back to Zetland in about 1969, and then out to Bathurst for the 1966 Mini Cooper S win and for each year up to the 1980s. Looks like a few us will be travelling together - First Class of course.
