Data isn't as current and another source had just under 20 million sales for China, but USA is definitely not the biggest market any more. The comparison with other past emerging manufacturing nations is interesting, but I don't think those had the same political implications as China? I remember seeing numbers that showed how much more quickly South Korea 'emerged' compared to Japan, and that China would improve on that.
