Hi PonyRider, waffle all that you like! I too am fascinated by this topic. You would love the Kennedy Space Centre tour like Boomer did or the Houston one I did. My wife and I were there all day and it was insufficient. I have attached a photo that my son took from my suburban backyard using a good telescope and a Nikon camera. It is significantly affected by all the surrounding lights but I still like it even just to see the infinite number of stars.
