The mighty 4x4 Blitz was the backbone of the NSW Volunteer Bushfire Brigades from the early post-war years until they started to be phased out in the 1970s. I was a member of the Ku-Ring-Gai brigade in Sydney's north in the 1970s. We had a Ford Blitz and there were many others (Ford and Chevrolet) converted for bushfire service, along with other ex-army stock like the Studebaker 6x6 and 'butterbox' Acco 6x6. Some great memories there.
